Having Christmas here in the UK isn't everybody's idea of a good time, so it's no surprise that many people choose to head to the airport and spend the festive period abroad . But, as you'll be aware, holidays can be extremely expensive - and this is often made even worse during the Christmas season. So if you're still considering getting something booked, you'll want to take note of some important advice from travel industry experts who have lifted the lid on the cheapest dates to fly around this time of the year - and the dates you'll want to avoid too.

Experts at Adventure Life are urging people not to hang about when it comes to booking a festive holiday for this year, as there's really no time like the present. While some travellers think flying on Christmas Day is a way to save money, that’s not always the case, as many people will have had the same idea.

Similarly, the Friday before Christmas - which is December 20 this year - is a hectic day for airports, and prices can be steep due to high demand. Another date to avoid is December 16, as many holiday-makers start travelling around then. Instead, look at flying on December 23rd, when prices tend to drop as many people have already begun their holidays.

The period between December 28th and 31st also tends to be less expensive for post-Christmas travel. A spokesperson from Adventure Life said: "If you're flexible, consider travelling a bit earlier in December, or even in late November. Not only can you score great airfare deals, but many destinations are already decked out in Christmas decorations by late November, letting you enjoy the festive celebrations without the crowd.

" And if you’re a spontaneous traveller, last-minute deal platforms are your best friend when it comes to securing an affordable Christmas holiday. These sites are tailored to last-minute travellers, pushing discounted packages, flights, and hotels for those willing to book on short notice. These platforms offer significant savings, especially if you’re flexible with your dates and destinations.

Adventure Life added: "The key to scoring a great last-minute deal is to be vigilant and check these websites frequently. "Deals often pop up mid-week (particularly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays), as airlines and hotels adjust their pricing to fill up remaining spots. Setting up price alerts can also help you snag a bargain as soon as it becomes available.

Be prepared to act fast, as the best deals don’t last long." If you want ideas and inspiration to plan your next UK adventure plus selected offers and competitions, sign up for our 2Chill weekly newsletter here.
