Home | I’m a minister until I’m told I’m no longer needed: MacPherson Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean MacPherson says he has a full week ahead as a member of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Cabinet. He was responding to a question about the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) future in the Government of National Unity (GNU) at a media briefing in Cape Town on Sunday. Macpherson says, as far as he is aware it is business as usual for him until the DA’s Federal Executive advises members otherwise.

He says, “I am a minister until I’m not, and I will keep working until I’m told I no longer need to. But as the leader of the DA said yesterday in Durban, the DA would like to stay in the GNU.” MacPherson says the DA has a role to play in the GNU.



He stresses that the GNU is of critical importance to South Africa in light of the crossroads the country finds itself in globally, geopolitically and economically. He says, “I have a full week ahead, and I’ll continue to serve South Africans to the best of my ability. I think that the GNU is worth fighting for, I think South Africa is worth fighting for and the GNU provides our country with the best possible chance to get through these very choppy waters at the moment.
