Air fryers are arguably the most sought-after kitchen appliance and one many households have come to love. They can cook everything you can make in an oven, albeit on a smaller scale. Even then, the likes of Ninja , Phillips, and Tefal have pioneered the trend with mega-sized and dual appliances.

As for the recipes that taste better done in air fryers over an oven, chef Aefa Mulholland has revealed a comprehensive guide to the easiest air fryer dishes she loves. The Irish chef and writer told Business Insider: “I trained as a chef and have worked in kitchens from Scotland to Sydney and Toronto to Martha's Vineyard. With all that experience, I still think air fryers are one of the best kitchen hacks.

” Express.co.uk have rounded up five of Aefa’s top seven “quick, easy snacks and meals”.

Egg bites Cheese and eggs combine to make a delicious, savoury treat entirely in an air fryer. Aefa explained how she halves a Mexican-inspired frittata recipe she found on the blog Every Little Crumb to make these tasty bites. The chef suggests pouring the mixture into oiled silicone muffin cups that fit in the air fryer basket and frying at 175C for 12 minutes.

Ingredients Roughly 2.5 tbsp of grated cheese Two tbsp chopped coriander (optional) Two tbsp sliced black olives Two tbsp halved cherry tomatoes One tbsp pickled sliced jalapenos One tbsp diced red onion Salt and pepper to season Irish breakfast sarnies Aefa said: “For this recipe , all I need is my air fryer and two ramekins.” To make the sandwiches mix well with one tablespoon of butter, one tablespoon of brown sugar, and a quarter cup of chopped onion to a ramekin.

Oil a second ramekin and crack an egg into it. Slice your favourite bread roll in half and put it face down next to both ramekins in the air-fryer basket. Place a few strips of bacon on a rack above the egg.

Cook for three minutes (at around 180C), flip the buns, add sliced cheddar, and cook for about seven more minutes — or until egg and bacon are to your liking. Load the onions, egg, and bacon onto the bun and serve with sliced tomato or tangy relish to finish. Twice-baked potatoes If you enjoy extra crispy spuds and, more importantly, a jacket potato with loads of flavour, this recipe is worth trying.

Aefa said: “In my five-quart basket, I air-fry my potatoes at 400F (205C) for 45 minutes before scooping out the insides, mashing them up with toppings, and refilling the spuds.” Return the spuds to the air fryer for about five minutes for the best results. According to the chef, the second round of baking adds extra crispness to the potato skin and creaminess to the insides.

The blog Cooking with Coit has a great basic recipe for the flavourings, but you can pick your own; classics include beans and cheese, tuna mayonnaise, sour cream and chives, and bacon. Caramelised bananas The chef claimed: “One of the simplest things I've made in an air fryer might also be my favourite: caramelised bananas.” Sharing a recipe from the blog Girls Who Eat , Aefa explained that it is as simple as slicing a banana in half (or slices or chunks), brushing both sides with oil, ghee, or butter, then dusting both sides with brown sugar and cinnamon.

Pop the bananas in the air fryer at 190C for three to five minutes per side to cook them. According to Aefa, more ripe bananas tend to cook faster and caramelise better. She said, “I also like adding ground cardamom and a dash of nutmeg to my cinnamon-sugar mixture and serving with ice cream.

” Air-fried cheesecake If sweet treats are more your style, these air-fried mini cheesecakes by Eating Well are one of Aefa’s “all-time favourite air-fryer desserts.” Ingredients Third cup biscuit crumbs (graham crackers, gingersnaps or shortbread) 1.5 tsp granulated sugar plus third cup One tbsp unsalted butter, melted One tub of reduced-fat cream cheese softened Two tbsp non-fat plain strained yoghurt, such as Greek-style One tsp lemon zest One large egg One large egg yolk One tsp vanilla extract Fresh fruit, cookie crumble or berry sauce for garnish Start by crumbling up the biscuits and combining them with a smaller quantity of sugar plus butter.

Mix the cream cheese, yoghurt, vanilla extract, egg, a third cup of sugar and lemon zest, and divide it into muffin cups on top of the crumbly crust. Preheat the air fryer to 175C and put the mini cheesecakes in for eight to 10 minutes. Chill in the fridge for an hour and serve with compote, fresh fruit, or jam.
