Drivers can make hefty car insurance savings by taking advantage of a little-known tip at renewal.

Motorists can cut their car insurance bill by as much as 25% by following a simple hack when renewing their policy. Mick Drives Cars, a leading motoring expert on YouTube, has admitted changing a job title can lead to bills being dramatically cut. Simply swapping one job title for an almost identical alternative could see prices slashed by up to a quarter.

Insurance experts have previously admitted the idea is real but motorists just make sure they don’t lie about a job title to secure savings. Speaking on YouTube, Mick Drives Cars warned the simple hack should work for every road user approaching renewal. He said: “This one is really good.

It can really work for literally anybody that's looking to insure a car, it doesn't have to be the young driver. That is to rephrase your job. “So say for example there was a while back I was an Operations Manager, I worked for a tech company.

“So what I did, rather than outing down Operations Manager Tech which had really high insurance premiums for whatever reason. I guess tech guys crash cars. “I changed it to Operations Manager Computer Services and for whatever reason I remember that reduced my insurance premium by like 25%.

“I think it went down from 1.6 to 1.2, a huge saving for no reason.

Tech and computer services are the same thing but people just put down tech and miss out on huge savings on their car insurance.” USwitch has confirmed that it was possible to use a different title for a job to lower the cost of premiums. They said: “You could use a different title for your job to lower the cost.

A journalist could be a writer, for example, while a researcher could also be an analyst. “It's all a bit of trial and error here though, especially as all insurers have their own definitions of professions.” MoneySuperMarket says road users are allowed to be “clever” about how they describe a job to insurers and are likely to be rewarded with a cheaper rate.

However, motorists who overly exaggerate the truth or outright lie will have their policy invalidated later down the line. MoneySuperMarket said: “Everything you write in your car insurance application has to be the truth though, so the title you pick must fit what you do. “If you provide false information and the truth comes to light when you submit a claim, the insurance company will probably refuse to pay the claim or may not pay it in full.
