Chennai: Police arrested 11 people on Saturday night for selling IPL tickets in the black near the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Thirty-four tickets were also seized. The arrested were identified as Aravindh, 24, of Pattabiram, Rupesh, 24, of Alanur, Vishnu, 19, of Avadi, Sethu Roshan, 20, of Triplicane, Chandran, 52, of Triplicane, Sriram, 25, of Ashok Nagar, Aravind, 20, of Gummidipoondi, Solomon, 19, of Thiruvottiyur, Vineeth, 28, of Kerala, Karthik, 23, of Chepauk, and Manikandan, 26, of Kottur.
They were found selling tickets near Bells Road, Wallajah road, Chepauk railway station, Victoria hostel road and Pattabiram gate. The arrests were made during the Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals match. This comes after a similar incident during the previous match between CSK and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where 25 people were arrested for the same offence.
Police deployed a special team in plainclothes around the stadium on match days to monitor and stop illegal ticket sales . The stadium remains under strict surveillance during matches, officials said. According to police sources, the accused had purchased tickets through official platforms and resold them at up to three times the original price.
Some tickets were reportedly sold for as much as 25,000. Police also found a few suspects trying to sell fake tickets. Investigations are underway to determine if the arrested individuals are part of a larger racket.
