An illegal fishing attempt was reported in Kendarpara district of Odisha, said reports on Thursday. As many as 11 people were arrested. According to reports, an illegal fishing attempt was foiled in Kendarpara and 11 people were arrested along with that three quintals of fish was seized.

The forest department of Kendrapara district raided a boat named Ma Suna Tarini-9 while they were fishing illegally in the deep sea. 11 fishermen were arrested following the raid. The forest department seized nets, walkie-talkies, mobiles and three quintals of fish from them.



The forest department informed that all the fishermen arrested and boats seized are from Balasore area. Recently on December 9, in a significant operation aimed at safeguarding maritime security and uphold national sovereignty, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) apprehended two Bangladeshi fishing vessels operating near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) within Indian waters at approximately 07:00 AM. The operation, carried out during routine surveillance, was led by the Indian Coast Guard Ship Amogh, which identified suspicious activity within Indian Maritime Boundaries.

Upon interception, the vessels were found engaged in unauthorized fishing activities, contravening international maritime laws and bilateral agreements..
