The public is being asked for their ideas on how to use Malmesbury’s Victorian cemetery chapel.

Malmesbury Town Council is hoping to bring the 1880s-built non-denominational place of worship back into community use. The council believes the chapel, which sits on Tetbury Hill in front of the cemetery, could be used for funeral services as well as community group events. The council wants to hear suggestions at two open days on Saturday, April 12, from 11am to 2pm, and Wednesday, April 16, from 5.

30pm to 7.30pm. Councillor Ian Wallis, who sits on the burial committee, said: "It is a beautiful building, that has been part of the history of the town for around 140 years, which has fallen into disuse, and it would be nice to make it into a functional space again.

Mr Wallis said the building is structurally sound but will need some restoration, redecoration, and other works. There will be a public meeting to discuss ideas and feedback from the open days on Wednesday, May 28, from 7pm to 8pm.

This will help the council develop its plans..
