) honours in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) degree programme, with the aim of producing qualified and skilled professionals to the medical industry. IChemC hopes to offer this new degree as a University Grants Commission (UGC) approved programme, which will also provide an opportunity for the graduates to obtain the registration at the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC). The medical laboratory practical training, under this new degree programme, will be offered at the laboratories of Asiri Group of Hospitals for a duration of four months.

This training programme will cover the areas of Hematology, Histopathology, Pathology, Microbiology, and Phlebotomy at different departments and locations of Asiri Hospitals. The MoU was signed by the President of IChemC, Prof. Janitha Liyanage, and Director, Laboratory Services at Asiri Group of Hospitals, Neil Priyath John.

The training programme will allow the students, who decide to pursue the B.Sc. honours in MLS degree programme, to get the experience of working with the high-tech instruments and automated systems at the Asiri laboratories, which will be extremely beneficial to develop their analytical skills and practical competencies.
