Streaking knockout artist Carlos Prates is set to face Ian Machado Garry in a pivotal contest for the 170-pound division. UFC president Dana White announced Tuesday the welterweight matchup will serve as the new five-round main event for the upcoming April 26 UFC Fight Night event in Kansas City, Mo. A 205-pound matchup between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr.
was initially slated to headline the event, but Hill is reportedly dealing with an injury. It is unclear at this time whether Hill vs. Rountree will be rebooked at a future date.
Prates was set to take on Geoff Neal at UFC 314 in Miami later this month, however, the organization announced over the weekend that the bout was cancelled after Neal withdrew due to an injury he sustained. Prates has won his last 11 pro bouts and is 4-0 with four knockouts since joining the UFC early in 2024. The 31-year-old from Brazil finished Trevin Giles in the second round, Charles Radtke in the first, Lis Jingliang in the second and Neil Magny in the first of his most recent appearance.
All four of Prates’s UFC wins have earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. Meanwhile, Machado Garry is looking to rebound from the first loss of his pro career. The 27-year-old from Ireland was on the wrong side of a five-round decision when he fell short of Shavkat Rakhmonov in the UFC 310 co-main in December.
