DIY SOS has been running since 1999 and has been a staple on the BBC for more than two decades. The programme follows Nick Knowles and his team as they transform family homes across Britain. An electrician who is currently working behind the scenes on the show has now spoken out about the experience, revealing what it is really like.
Four days into the project, Danny Baker, who is an employee for BECS (Baker Electrical Contractors Limited), explained how hard the DIY SOS team works to help people. Speaking in an Instagram video, which was shared by Nick, Danny began: "The BECS team are helping out a terrific family in London and I have to say, the act of kindness and community spirit is second to none, it is pretty special. "I've just left there now and the boys are going at it hard.
One of life's massive questions is how do they get so many people in that house without anybody having a dust up is just a mystery." Heaping praise on Nick and the DIY SOS team, he continued: "Everyone's got a job to do. Everyone's kind.
Everyone's got a smile on their face. For the DIY SOS team, they work tremendously hard. There's no cheating, there's no short cuts, it is what it is.
"It's nine days and you are there from day one to day nine and they are the first people on sight and the last people off sight and they chip in and help out. It's something to be adhered to when you can see what happens and what goes on and it's quite special." Danny added: "I'm so pleased that we've done it and to give this family the help they need is truly a gift that we are just happy to do.
I hope it helps them out and I hope they get everything in life that they deserve." Last month, Nick posted an "emotional" update about the upcoming series as he announced filming was well underway. The 62-year-old took to Instagramto share a selfie on set with a few of his co-stars, including Gabrielle Blackman, Chris Frediani, Ian Hodgkinson and Billy Byrne.
The presenter wrote: "Just to let you know we are about a third of the way through filming a brand new series of @bbcdiysos around the UK. Already we have built for some wonderful families in great communities with the help of an army of generous trades, suppliers and volunteers." The Strictly Come Dancing star continued: "There’s old faces (especially mine) and new and a huge rise in community spirit everywhere.
Keep an eye out for us coming to your area and news on when the series will be broadcast." Nick added: "I can tell you now though – it’s going to be epic and emotional.".
