A man who bagged nearly £25,000 on a football bet has sparked outrage with his reaction to the win. He anonymously shared his windfall in a post to the @fesshole account on X, where people post confessions. But his post backfired as he was criticised for hiding the true amount from his wife.
He confessed: " Won around £24,800 on a footy bet a few months back, told my wife it was actually a half share of just over £12k with a pal - my share amounting to £6200. OK she said, you can have the £3200 and I'll have the £3k to go shopping with. Result.
" Instead of congratulations, the unnamed man received a barrage of replies mocking him and criticising his decision. One user wrote: "You could have just tweeted 'I lied to my wife'." While one suggested he should have kept all the winnings secret, saying if he "didn't tell her you'd of had an extra £3k", most were disturbed by the man's deception as another warned he was "walking on thin ice".
A third slammed his response to winning £24,800 as "terrible". Yet, not everyone condemned the anonymous winner's actions. One post read: "Won £2k on the lottery (which I pay for) a while ago.
Wife decided 'we' had won. Next win will go straight into my personal bank account, based on the fact she made me leave the room when our mortgage advisor asked us how much in savings we both had." Another joked: "I’d say you’re gonna have trouble hiding the 18k from her.
But then again we all know that’s gonna be rinsed within a year anyway...
" One user earnestly suggested treating his wife to a trip away with the money won from the football bet. They suggested: "Why don’t you do something nice together with the money. You could go on a little romantic holiday somewhere and reconnect over quality time together.
You don’t have to spend a fortune but it could save your relationship." Another wondered what the point of hiding the win was. They said: "What's the point of winning £25k if you can't spend it openly in front of your family.
No holiday, home improvements, car, 2nd home for this guy.. He's gonna spend it all in secret on beer and gambling.
Top bloke.".
