RTE viewers were all left saying the same thing about the "amazing" finale of The Boy That Never Was. The hit show is the new Irish series adaptation of the best-selling novel by author Karen Perry. The Boy That Never Was expands over a series of four thrilling episodes.

The plot follows parents Harry and Robin as they live the life of artists in Essaouira, Morocco , with their toddler son, Dillon. Suddenly, tragedy strikes when an earthquake hits and their apartment crumbles – with a sleeping Dillon inside. When Harry races back to rescue his child, there is no sign of him.

Not even a body. The show then flashes forward to three years later as Harry and Robin have returned to Dublin and are co-existing as two grieving parents just trying to get by. With Dillon’s body never found, the absence of and need for closure lays between them.

The couple try to move on by renovating an old property in Dublin. One day, in a crowded train station in Dublin city centre, Harry believes he spots Dillon with a red-haired woman. Harry chases them, but loses track of the boy, leaving him on a mission to find his son.

In the second episode Harry returned to Essaouira to see their old friend, Cozimo - in another effort to find his son. After their quick, dramatic visit, Harry was left disgusted and confused and his imagination got the better of him. He was left with many questions - Why is Ollie here? What is his connection to child traffickers? And is there some connection to Dillon? In last week's episode, Harry found deleted footage of the young boy he spotted at the train station, who looked like his son.

Tonight, throwing Robin off the trail, Harry convinced her that he now knew she was right, seeing Dillon was all in his head. Behind her back, Harry used the footage he found in the bin as a starting point and was able to track down the woman and her son to their hire car. From there, he found a name - Eva Doyle.

While Harry tracked down Eva Doyle, Robin was conducting her own investigation. RTE viewers were all left saying the same thing as all truths were revealed in the finale of the thrilling four-part series. Shane said: "That was not the ending I expected! Edge of the seat stuff - brave!" Robert wrote: "OMG now I wasn't expecting this one.

" Brian commented: "Jaysus this is all kinds of messed up." Another added: "After reading the book, I just know the finale is going to be amazing." Each episode aired on Sunday's at 9.
