A former contestant from Pointless has revealed that their brother almost got on the wrong side of Alexander Armstrong . The 55-year-old has fronted the BBC quiz show since its inception in 2009, co-hosting with Richard Osman until his departure in 2022.Armstrong often showcases his impressive knowledge on the show when sharing the answers with contestants, which has led viewers to ponder whether he truly knows them or is simply fed the answers by producers.
One person asked on Reddit : "Do we know whether Alexander Armstrong is fed answers to give or if he actually knows them? I know he’s a rather intelligent man in real life but the amount of Pointless and ridiculously low scoring answers he says makes me think he’s just given answers to tell." The post received several responses from fans who believe Armstrong knows the answers because he is extremely clever, including one former contestant who decided to share a humourous anecdote from their time on the show. The former contestant said: "I went on the show.
Honestly think he's just a well read clever fella. Just to share a funny story. He came over to speak to us just before it began, quick hello etc.
"As he was walking off my brother turned to me, 'He's a really horrible colour. Do you think he's sick or something, he looks awful'. Err we're mic'd up, he can hear you.
Just then Alexander turned round with a smile on his face and looked at my brother who turned beetroot and looked at the floor. Never letting him live that down." Asked if this could have been caused by the TV makeup, the contestant claimed it wasn't this and the presenter was "haggard" from the lengthy shoots.
"Just a bit haggard looking. Had already done a few shows that day by time we got on so I'm sure he was just knackered," they clarified. The filming process was recently discussed by Rosie Mullender, 47, who appeared on Pointless with her 71-year-old mother Janet.
They took part in the show in 2019 when both Armstrong and Osman were hosts. Speaking about their experience on Pointless with FruitySlots.com, Rosie confessed it was a long day of waiting around as their episode was the last to be filmed.
"I think we got there at 8am but they filmed three to four episodes back to back and we were on the final one, so we weren’t called to start filming until 4:30pm," she recalled. "They also do your hair and make-up which is a nice treat. It only took about an hour to film a whole episode and we were done for the day.
Rosie added: "None of the real game was reshot and we were able to blitz through it really quickly. But Alexander did do a couple of takes of him asking the questions. He’d get a note in his earpiece and just redo the last line.
You were warned that could happen and told not to answer again.".
