Alongside your classic chains like Pizza Express, Pizza Hut and Bella Italia are alternative options including Pizza Pilgrims and Japes. But sitting at the top of the tree on TripAdvisor’s ranking of the best pizza in Soho is Rudy’s. It’s easy to see why Rudy’s is gaining popularity - tasty pizza in causal surroundings, all while being well-priced.
Founders Kate and Jim Morgan opened their first pizzeria in Manchester back in 2015 and their restaurants have expanded across the UK, with sites in London in Soho, Spitalfields, Queensway, Shoreditch, Tottenham Court Road, and Westfield Shopping Centre. We took a trip to Rudy’s Pizza in Soho to see why it stands out from the crowd and weren’t left disappointed. The restaurant was bustling with customers on a Tuesday evening but the friendly staff were quick and attentive.
A small campana plate was more than enough for two (Image: NQ) After a long day we turned up to the restaurant hungry so for starters we shared a the ‘Small Campana’ plate with peppery rocket, spicy cured meats, oven dried tomatoes and slices of olive oil-drizzled mozzarella. There was nothing small about it, it was more than enough for two, and was the perfect palate pleaser before our pizza. We then moved on to the star of the show.
The dough for their Neapolitan pizza takes 24 hours to ferment and just 60 seconds to cook in a red hot oven while the base is made with sweet San Marzano tomatoes. I went for the tarantina whilst my partner had the cinghiale - both pizzas were really light with a chewy crust. Rudy's pizzas are cooked for just 60 seconds (Image: NQ) It was nicely offset by one of Rudy's fruity cocktails, we tried the orancello spritz which was delicious.
I’ve got a sweet tooth so wish I had room for dessert, but all I could manage was a shot of lemoncello. We left with full stomachs eager to return soon. Rudy's Neapolitan Pizza is at 80 Wardour Street in Soho.
