I tried one of 'Birmingham's best Sunday roasts' at a cosy canalside cafe and was blown away

Ju Ju's Cafe is hidden away off Browning Street near the canal in the city centre - but is well worth seeking out

When it comes to perfecting the most incredible Sunday roast dinner - I sometimes find it so difficult to replicate that homecooked taste at restaurants or pubs. There's just nothing better is there? The waft of smells lingering in the kitchen and sitting down with your loved ones to enjoy the delicious food. Especially my mum's homecooked roast, you can't beat it.

But then I heard about this cute and cosy canalside cafe serving one of Birmingham's best roasts. I couldn't ignore the pull - and I headed straight for their website and booked us in for the next available Sunday lunchtime. We ended up on part of the canal I had never ventured to before - but after a few hours at Ju Ju's, I knew I would most definitely be back. We headed in, greeted by the owner and their staff, who were lovely and incredibly accommodating. I must say, it is some of the best service I've had in Birmingham in years.

. Inside it felt so cosy, like you were in your nan's house. Completely warm and inviting.

But we were there for the £19 Sunday roast. There was a choice of roast chicken, slow cooked beef brisket, roast pork belly or vegan wellington.

For £28, you could upgrade to the 'Mighty Sunday Roast' which included all three meats and pigs in blankets. 'Not for the faint hearted' the menu added. I chose fo the roast chicken, while my partner chose the slow cooked beef brisket.

We also added a side of pigs in blankets too (they are NOT just for Christmas). It was an extra 99p for a Yorkshire pud with my dinner, and another 99p for stuffing on my partner's plate. All in all, with a half pint of beer and two diet cokes, our bill came to £58.

25. We were told there would be a short wait as everything is cooked from fresh, but we didn't mind because we were blown away when our lunch arrived at our table. Two plates piled high with meat, potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy arrived first.

Then came a huge bowl of multi-coloured veg, the pigs in blankets and a portion of sage and onion stuffing, along with two small pots of cranberry and horseradish sauces. My roast chicken roast dinner from Ju Ju's Cafe was absolutely delicious (Image: Dayna Farrington) All I could think was wow. My tummy was immediately rumbling.

How were we ever going to finish this? It was a challenge I was willing to accept. My roast chicken was absolutely delicious -flavoursome and glorious. My partner remarked that his slow-cooked beef was melt-in-the-mouth.

The roasties were crisped to perfection all fluffy inside. The stuffing also had plenty of flavour if not slightly on the onion-y side. We definitely didn't need the portion of pigs in blankets, but were glad to have them and devoured them anyway.

The veg was cooked beautifully, with a good mix of carrots, greens and red cabbage. The Yorkies were huge and piled on the top of our plate like crowns topped off with gloopy gravy, more-ish, rich and tasty. We'd definitely found Birmingham's best roast dinner. I was blown away. I spent the next fortnight telling everyone about the amazing homemade roast dinner I had - and that they all needed to go and try.

I can't wait to go back. This review was independent, conducted at random and food and drink was paid for by the reviewer. Ju Ju's Cafe is located at Watermarque, Canal Square, 100 Browning Street, Birmingham, B16 8EH.
