Butter is one of the most crucial items in any household kitchen , and rightly so. The kitchen staple is used as an ingredient in many recipes apart from being an everyday essential. Spreadable butter- made with a blend of butter and vegetable oil, can be used straight from the fridge.
However, there are a number of options available across the supermarkets and it’s difficult to find out which spreads taste the best. While Lurpak is the most popular choice among all the spreadable butter, the latest analysis by Which? revealed the one which is cheaper and better than it. A panel of 67 people was asked to blind taste and rate eight supermarket options alongside Lurpak.
Surprisingly, Aldi’ s Nordpak Spreadable Slightly Salted secured the top spot for being a perfect match of taste and price. The survey stated: “The creamy texture was a particular hit with our panel, with the majority of tasters finding the creaminess spot-on. “People also loved its appealing colour and well-balanced flavour.
As one of the cheapest tubs on test, it's a great choice if you're after a budget-friendly buttery spread.” Interestingly, Lurpak was placed in fourth place, with two other supermarkets' butter rated better than it. M&S Lightly Salted Butter Blend was rated as the second-best choice with the panellist left impressed by its flavour and texture.
The survey stated: "Of all the spreads we tested, it contains the highest proportion of butter, though that does make it a little higher in saturated fat compared to some others." The third spot was taken over by Morrisons salted spreadable butter. The experts explained: "The butter from Morrisons scored a tad higher than Lurpak overall and is less than half the price.
It was among the best-rated spreadable butters for texture, with most of our panel rating it as having the perfect creaminess. "It also has the lowest saturated fat content per 100g, though, like all of the spreadable butters we tested, it's still high in saturated fat overall.".
