I love icy treats of all types — soft serve, gelato, popsicles, mochi, sherbet — I could go on. But one variety I hardly ever reach for is nondairy ice cream. That is, until now.
On March 25, announced that its newest nondairy frozen dessert flavor is Chocolate Caramel Brownie in a press release provided to TODAY.com. Part of its expanding nondairy line, the new flavor features a chocolate oat milk base, salted caramel, almond toffee and fudge brownie pieces.
Ben & Jerry’s says that the new flavor is made with its “new oat-based Non-Dairy frozen dessert base” and is certified vegan. The flavor joins like Bananas Foster, Oatmeal Dream Pie and The Tonight Dough. The brownie-inspired delight is now available across the U.
S. at the suggested retail price of $4.99 to $6.
49. Ben & Jerry’s was kind enough to send me a pint of its new flavor and as someone who thinks that nondairy milks aren't always the most delicious base for frozen desserts, I was skeptical. But I was pleasantly surprised by this! First off, it is chocolatey.
I like being overwhelmed with chocolate, though, so this was a big plus. Although the chocolate base is made with , if you didn’t tell me this was vegan, I never would have known. Waves of salted caramel and fudgy brownie pieces play a major supporting role as I tasted the sweet treat.
One negative, though: I wish there were more almond toffee pieces in this flavor — or none at all. They pop up too infrequently in the dessert and the pieces are too small to make any real impression. Sometimes when I taste test a new product, I’ll try enough to describe how I feel to readers and nothing more.
That’s especially true when I despise something (looking at you, ). But that’s not at all the case here. Not only did I taste a scoop of Chocolate Caramel Brownie for my initial reaction, but later on, I went back to my freezer and got another scoop (or two).
