I took £20 to Poundland for a bathroom makeover and still came home with change

It's given the room a fresh look on a budget

It's that time of year when we all start looking to freshen up our homes. Whether it's getting outside to clear the drive , or adding some new spring bedding , a new season is often the inspiration we need to get on top of things. But with the cost of living crisis still hitting shoppers hard, it can be tricky to find any extra cash to make improvements.

That's why budget shops like Poundland can be a godsend for sprucing things up without having to spend a fortune. With a rather drab looking bathroom, I headed to the store to see what I could find for a mini makeover. Inside the Poundland store (Image: Manchester Family / MEN) I say makeover, but really I just wanted to replace the old bath mat, the rather drab looking bin and get some new accessories.

Armed with £20, I wasn't sure I'd manage to get much, but I was pleasantly surprised with the prices. Despite it's name, everything isn't quite a quid. It's recently gone back to its roots by increasing the number of £1 products available , but there are lots of items costing more.

And it's still one of the cheapest places around for buying everything from toiletries and household products to gardening stuff, clothing and food and drink. Before and after - it's now a much neater space (Image: Manchester Family / MEN) I picked up a grey bath mat for £5 and a bamboo lid pedal bin for £6. With £11 already spent I wasn't sure I'd get everything else I needed with the remaining £9.

Yet that's when I came across the grey and white marble ceramic range, some of which was in the clearance section. The soap dispenser cost me just £2 and the toilet brush was reduced from £5 to £2.50.

While there wasn't a separate toothbrush holder, I decided the ceramic dish from the toilet brush was worth £2.50 on its own, so bought a second one to use for the toothbrushes and toothpaste. The products cost me less than £20 (Image: Manchester Family / MEN) With a bit of tidying up, it's made such a difference to the small, cluttered space.

I no longer have a plastic blue cup and brightly coloured soap on display. I had £2 change from £20 and have a spare toilet brush for when it's needed. You can't ask for a better deal than that.
