Easter is on the horizon, and as usual, there is a huge variety of Easter eggs for people to buy in supermarkets across the UK. The likes of Cadbury and Nestlé are well-known for their offerings and have been mainstays for decades on shop shelves. Plenty of other companies offer their own alternative though, which has been seen with the likes of Lidl.
The supermarket chain has released a few new Easter eggs in its 'Deluxe' range, including some new layered versions. Lidl has released a few new eggs in its 'Deluxe' range (Image: Newsquest) Alongside that, they have a couple of marbled eggs, including a chocolate orange and triple chocolate offering. For me, Cadbury is the gold standard when it comes to Easter eggs, so I'm always curious to see if a new alternative can match up to them.
Therefore, I decided to put them to the test and see if they were worth buying. (function (d, s, n) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; js = d.

As the name of the product states, the egg has a second chocolate layer underneath the first which has a caramelised biscuit spread on it. After taking one bite, I knew I was in for a fantastic experience. The Caramelised Biscuit egg was phenomenal (Image: Newsquest) The flavour was absolutely delicious, with the velvety spread excellently complementing the chocolate.
If I had less self-control, I genuinely could have eaten it all in one sitting, but I did want the rest of my family to try it, so I relented. I would put this up there as one of the best Easter eggs I've ever had, consider me impressed, Lidl. Score : 10/10 The Salted Caramel egg was a bit mediocre (Image: Newsquest) Price : £8.
99 Up next was the second layered egg in the salated caramel version, which disappointed me a little. After the hype of the caramelised biscuit egg, this was just kind of mediocre in comparison. It was slightly more iffy to break apart and to be perfectly honest, the combination of flavours here didn't wow me.
This was a bit of a 'back down to earth' moment for me, but at the same time, it wasn't awful. Score : 5/10 The chocolate orange marbled egg offered a pleasurable experience (Image: Newsquest) Price : £6.99 Chocolate and orange is an eternal combination that will never grow old and I'm pleased to report that remains the case here.
The marbled egg has a nice sheen and pattern on the exterior, which gives it a nice presentation. Coupled with some tasty chocolate, it makes for a winning formula that I can imagine most people enjoying. What pleased me quite a bit was how they didn't skimp out on the chocolate, with it being quite thick around most of the egg.
Score : 8/10 The Triple Chocolate Marbled egg was also great (Image: Newsquest) Price : £6.99 Finally, there was the Triple Chocolate Marbled egg, which offers the same pleasures as the orange one without the same flavour. The effect of the milk, white and dark chocolate combination is delicious in its own right and is a worthy part of Lidl's range.
Score : 8/10 Recommended reading: Overall, the Caramelised Biscuit Layered Easter egg was my favourite of the bunch by a long distance. The brilliantly velvety texture and flavour added so much to make it an exceptionally pleasurable experience. Meanwhile, the two marbled Easter eggs were both very good and certainly get my approval.
The only one that didn't really live up to expectation was the Salted Caramel layered egg, which just seemed mediocre to me..
