Jon ‘Bones’ Jones retained his heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 309 last night as he dropped then stopped former champion Stipe Miocic with a vicious body kick in the third round. However, not everyone was impressed by Jon Jones ’ performance, with interim champion and expected next opponent Tom Aspinall claiming that seeing ‘Bones’ up-close has given him the knowledge needed to claim undisputed glory. Tom Aspinall reacts to Jon Jones’ retaining title with third-round knockout at UFC 309 The former light heavyweight champion was the sizable betting favorite heading into UFC 309 and the oddsmakers were spot on, with Jones dominating Stipe Miocic straight from the opening bell before ultimately scoring a fabulous third-round knockout.

“It was, as you American guys say, by design,” stated Tom Aspinall via the ESPN MMA post-show, explaining how the fight “was exactly what I thought, exactly what I thought would happen. “To beat Jon Jones, the most important thing that you need is good eyes, good reactions, quick reactions, and in all honestly, Stipe Miocic just didn’t have that at 42 years old.” Whilst Jones might be pining for a super-fight with Alex Pereira , the British juggernaut believes that he’s seen everything that he needs to in order to devise a winning gameplan for ‘Bones’.

“Of course, I have only seen Jon Jones fighting on the TV before, this is the first time that I’ve seen him up close and I was sitting in arm’s length from the UFC octagon – it is way different watching it on TV than watching it up-close. “I am so happy that I got to see an up-close version of what Jon Jones looks like 37 years old and on the back end of his career, I’m very satisfied.” WOW : Jon Jones helps Drake recover massive Paul vs Tyson losses as $1 million bet pays off When asked whether there was any one particular disadvantage that he spotted from the consensus GOAT, Aspinall simply teased: “The speed, just the speed – there is no chance that he can, I don’t want to say too much you know what I mean.

” Whilst Aspinall refused to offer up any details as to what his strategy could be, the 15-3 finisher did state that he’s got plenty of paths to victory against the consensus greatest of all time. “Absolutely, I see everything..

. Whether I can do it in there, you know Jon Jones is arguably the best to ever do it, but I definitely see openings. Whether I can do it myself, I don’t know, but from the outside looking in, I think I can.

” UFC 309 : Francis Ngannou sends message to Jon Jones after sensational KO win Dana White says Jones vs Aspinall would be ‘the biggest fight we’ve ever done’ Despite Tom Aspinall being the interim champion for over a whole year, Jon Jones is still holding out hope that he can land a super-fight with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira next. Whilst Jones vs Pereira would be an unbelievable contest, both Aspinall and Dana White agree that their undisputed heavyweight showdown would draw the bigger crowd. “When Jones started talking about retirement, when he started talking about Alex Pereira; nothing, it was dead silence, but as soon as he mentioned me the crowd erupted again,” said Aspinall.

“I’ve spoken to the UFC brass a little bit, and I’ll speak to them a little bit more and in my opinion, obviously I’m biased, but I think that this is the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history and it’s the fight that people want to see.” UFC 309 : Jon Jones makes definitive statement on retirement following KO win over Miocic At the post-fight press conference , Dana White agreed with Aspinall’s assessment: “It doesn’t have the potential to be – it’s going to be [the biggest fight ever]. “It’s going to be the biggest heavyweight fight ever and it’ll probably be the biggest fight that we’ve ever done.

” Later that same press conference, White would also confirm that the UFC is set to make a major and ‘permanent’ change to how fights proceed . UFC 309 : Michael Chandler reverts back to Conor McGregor callout following loss to Charles Oliveira.
