, a former civil servant, is making headlines as a candidate for the Trehgam constituency. Drawing on a deep-rooted legacy of public service from his late father, Ghulam Qadir Mir, Nazir combines experience with a fresh vision. With a strong foundation in administration and a dedication to his community, he aims to address local issues and contribute positively to the future of his constituency.

caught up with Mir to explore his journey, motivations, and plans for Trehgam. I grew up in Harie, Kupwara, in a family deeply committed to public service. My father, Ghulam Qadir Mir, was a significant political figure known for his humility and dedication.

Despite his roles as an MLA and cabinet minister, he led a simple life and never owned property in Srinagar. His focus was on serving the people of his constituency, including providing numerous government jobs, which deeply influenced me. His legacy is a powerful example of true service to the community.

My education began locally at Harie High School and Trehgam and continued at Degree College Sopore, SP College Srinagar, and Kashmir University, where I earned a law degree. My career started as a Protocol Officer in New Delhi, giving me a broad view of governance. Later, I was with the Ministry of Commerce and Foreign Affairs, which expanded my understanding of administration and diplomacy.

Returning to Kashmir in 2003, I took on key roles such as CEO of the Sonmarg Development Authority, the Wular Manasbal Tourism Development Authority, and the Gulmarg Development Authority. These positions allowed me to significantly impact tourism development. I also served as Managing Director of the State Cable Car Corporation and, before retiring in 2018, as Regional Director of Handicrafts for Kashmir and Ladakh.

My focus was on preserving our cultural heritage and supporting local artisans. My aim has always been to channel my efforts towards uplifting the poor. I even considered starting a charitable trust to work for their betterment.

When the assembly elections were announced and I received an offer from the AIP, I realised that politics would enable me to make a more substantial impact. An MLA can serve the community more effectively than a private citizen. Initially, I wasn’t serious about politics, but the youth associated with AIP needed the support of a mature perspective, which encouraged me to join.

Our campaign is built on principles of truth and integrity, and I am hopeful for a positive outcome. Both Mir Saifullah and Bashir Dar have been in the political landscape for a long time and have been tested. It’s time for a change.

AIP provides a new and credible alternative for the people of Trehgam. Leveraging my experience in the tourism sector, I plan to focus on enhancing border tourism in Trehgam. This will help create job opportunities and improve livelihoods.

Strengthening tourism infrastructure and promoting local attractions will be central to my efforts. To the people of Trehgam, my candidacy is driven by a sincere desire to serve and make a meaningful impact. My background in public service and my connection to our region shape my commitment to addressing your needs and challenges.

I seek your support and trust as we work together to build a better future for Trehgam, rooted in integrity, dedication, and progress..
