Many would say that a humble sandwich is the backbone of British lunches, and typically an affordable choice. Recently sandwich lovers have been going wild for a ham and cheese toastie sold at Harrods for £10. The truffle and cheese toastie has been described as a "an indulgent toastie made with truffle bechamel, gruyere and new Harrods own label truffle honey ham available from the charcuterie counter".

Harrods' own TikTok account said: "Truffle ham and cheese toastie, anyone? With glowing reviews from truffle fans and sceptics alike – it's the ultimate way to finish off your shopping. Find it on the sandwich counter in the Fresh Market Hall on the Ground Floor." But, is it really worth it? The treat has truffle inside which is what makes it pricier than a typical toastie.

A food lover called Carmie Sellitto, who often reviews restaurants around London and recently spent £75 on Harrods grapes, decided to see if the sandwich is worth the price. Carmie, who boasts over 840,000 followers on his TikTok account @touchdaylight , said: "I can't believe I spent £10 on this." Reviewing the treat from his car, Carmie showed that it comes in a takeaway box.

He observed that the treat was not cut in half so he found it hard to manage, plus it was only toasted on one side. "I saw this and it caught my eye because I was like why is a ham and cheese toastie £10," Carmie said. He noted that the bread "smells amazing" as did the truffle.

Carmie, who also recently reviewed the £180 strawberries from Harrods, added: "The cheese is really nice, it's also got some truffle in there. The bread not being toasted here is a bit annoying because like I get a bit of crunch with a bit of soft bread." Concluding his thoughts, the viral food reviewer commented: "I'm going to be real, the flavours are really good.

Like you know, it's some really high quality ham, some really yummy cheese and some really nice truffle. But the crunch is just missing for me and that's the only annoying thing about this sandwich." Carmie offered the sandwich a rating of 6 out of 20.

He said that if the sandwich had been cut into triangular shapes and was toasted on both sides, he would have given it a score of 9. "One side not being toasted is wild," commented one. "If both sides aren't toasted, it's a no from me," agreed one other.

One other added: "If that was toasted both sides, would be banging." "Omg all my favourite things," commented one other in another review video. Another pointed out: "Looks nice but the toastie looks a bit soft, not crispy.
