Hyundai has recently unveiled the Ioniq 9, the company's new three-row electric SUV. Based on Hyundai's 'Seven' concept revealed in 2021, the Ioniq 9 is built on Hyundai's E-GMP platform, the same architecture used for its other electric models, including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. The Ioniq 9 is available in Long Range and Performance variants, with the option of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
The Long Range RWD version is equipped with a 160 kW motor, delivering a range of up to 385 miles under WLTP standards. The Long Range AWD model adds a front motor for additional traction, while the Performance AWD variant includes dual 160 kW motors for higher power output. All configurations feature a 110.
3kWh battery capable of supporting over 300 miles of range. Charging speeds of up to 350 kW allow for rapid recharging at compatible DC fast-charging stations, as per official information from Hyundai. As for the interior, select trims, such as the premium Calligraphy option, offer second-row seats that can recline completely and include leg rests and massage features, says Hyundai.
These seats can also swivel to face the third row. Hyundai Ioniq 9 includes the Hyundai AI Assistant, an advanced voice recognition system, and Active Noise Control-Road to minimise cabin noise. Audio quality is enhanced by a BOSE® sound system, says Hyundai.
Additional features include autonomous parking capabilities, enabling the vehicle to manage various parking scenarios remotely, and Hyundai CarPay, which allows drivers to handle parking payments directly from the car. The vehicle's charging system supports the North American Charging System (NACS), enabling compatibility with Tesla Superchargers. Hyundai will also supply adapters for non-Tesla chargers.
However, the location of the charging port on the rear passenger side may present challenges at stations with shorter cables, suggests an article by The Verge on the car. According to The Verge, production of the Ioniq 9 will take place at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia, a $7.6 billion facility developed in partnership with LG Energy Solution.
Final pricing details have not yet been announced..
