Humanoid Origin, the game studio founded by former BioWare general manager Casey Hudson, has recently announced its closure due to funding challenges. In a statement shared on LinkedIn, the company said, "Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations." In 2022, Humanoid Origin announced its inaugural project, a multi-platform AAA game promising a character-driven narrative set in an original science-fiction universe.
The studio shared concept art for the game on its website, sparking early interest, but no additional details or gameplay footage were released. Casey Hudson founded the company in 2021, originally naming it Humanoid Studios. He was known for his work as producer and director on some of BioWare's most iconic titles, including Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
After departing BioWare in 2014 for Microsoft Studios, Hudson returned to BioWare in 2017, only to leave permanently in 2020, stating it was time to "make way for the next generation of studio leaders.".
