Warkworth joined a global art installation last week when a sculpture court set up on the wharf, beside the Mahurangi River. The event was organised by Rodney Inclusive Communities Inc (RICI) to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. The aim of the international event is to raise awareness of the need to treat people with disabilities with dignity and respect, and give them opportunities to reach their full potential.

The theme this year was ‘amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’. It emphasised the importance of people with disabilities participating in decision-making processes that affect their lives. The human sculpture courts started in 2015 with two sites, New York and Hobart, and has since spread around the world.

The Warkworth Wharf installation was part of a week-long series of art events organised by RICI to focus on diversity and accessibility issues in Rodney. Info:.
