IPOH: Tension marred the Tambun PKR Tambun divisional election after a division chief candidate was alleged to have brandished a pistol at several individuals believed to be supporters of his rival.In a 65-second video, an individual and several others claimed that Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad — the candidate for Tambun division chief and also the Hulu Kinta assemblyman — brandished a pistol at them.In the video, the man individual who is also believed to be a candidate for Tambun deputy division chief, alleged that Arafat displayed the pistol while he and his team were canvassing for votes from party members during the election.
"Arafat showed a pistol. He threatened our members and candidates. I urge the police to take stern action against this YB who is using gangster-like tactics in Tambun," said the individual.
Meanwhile, Arafat, in a statement, denied the allegation, stating that during every party election cycle, there are always quarters who resort to slander for the political benefit of his opponents.Following this, Arafat said a police report had been lodged against the individuals in the video, and he has instructed his lawyer to initiate legal action against the man for what he described as defamation."The public can judge the slanders being raised precisely on the polling day of the party election in Perak today, which is April 13.
Candidates should face the election with principles, ethics, and a sense of camaraderie."A police report has been filed against the individual and I've instructed my lawyer to begin legal proceedings against the person spreading these lies," he said.Attempts to obtain more details from the police are still ongoing.
