Hull FC have added further detail to Jed Cartwright’s hamstring injury, with the back rower suffering a significant tear to the muscle, one that could keep him out for around two months. Head coach John Cartwright told Hull Live last Thursday that the forward will be “out for a while,” with more context now added. Cartwright felt a ‘pop’ at Wakefield when chasing back a Trinity break.

He limped off at half-time and didn’t return for the second half. And now with full scan results back, Hull’s coach has confirmed the player’s prognosis. He is set for a hefty period of rehab but thankfully won’t need an operation.

“It’s a bad tear - he’s going to be out for a while,” Cartwright said. “It’s just rehab. He doesn’t need an operation.

But that rehab will take some time. “He’s been playing well, and it’s unfortunate that he’s got a bad injury now. I don’t like putting timeframes on, but it’s probably a two-month injury.

He will do everything he can to get back on the field as quickly as he can.” Cartwright has been one of Hull’s strong performers this year. He was superb against Leigh, scoring a try and remaining dominant with his offloads and strong defence - something that has pleased his father and head coach this year.

“He’s got aggression in his game - he’s got an offload in him, and he’s very strong in defence,” Cartwright explained. “I’m really happy with the way that he’s played, but that’s footy, and while we’ll miss him, we’ll work hard with him to get him back.” Brad Fash is now set to hold the back row position.

Elsewhere, Hull have been dealt positive injury news, with Yusuf Aydin set to play against Hull KR on Saturday and Zak Hardaker in contention. Jack Charles and Callum Kemp have also recovered from their respective injuries, while Amir Bourouh and Sam Eseh are good to go after picking up knocks at Castleford last week. Elsewhere, Hull will be without Harvey Barron (hamstring), Ligi Sao (knee), Cade Cust (HIA), Oliver Holmes (knee), Denive Balmforth (hamstring), Ryan Westerman (ankle), and Roman Dawson (ACL).

Liam Watts is cup-tied and is also nursing a calf injury..
