Hull FC are hoping for some respite on the injury front next week. The Black and Whites head to Huddersfield Giants on Friday night looking to get back on the horse after a first defeat of the season to Wigan Warriors. Taking on the Giants in West Yorkshire, head coach John Cartwright is expecting to have Amir Bourouh back in the fold.
The hooker needs to pass his final return-to-play checks after failing an HIA against Catalans, but the general consensus is that he will be able to play. Jack Ashworth is also within a chance of featuring. The prop also had an HIA in the south of France, but he was also ill this week and unable to play.
But on a lighter note, he could make a full recovery to line up in time for the third-round clash with his return a welcome boost to the pack. However, that may be as good as it gets for Cartwright, who was without nine players for the Wigan game. Elsewhere on the injury front, Zak Hardaker (groin), Jed Cartwright (hamstring), Oliver Holmes (knee), Davy Litten (MCL), Jack Charles (ankle), Matty Laidlaw (MCL), and Roman Dawson (ACL) are all continuing their recoveries, with Hull losing Ligi Sao to a leg knock during the game.
Sao is now set for scans this weekend to determine his injury, with the prop leaving the MKM Stadium in a brace on Friday night. Speaking post-match, Cartwright confirmed, “Amir Bourouh will be back. Jack Ashworth, maybe.
That’s about it at this stage. We’ve got a fair few on that list, so we’ve got to batten down the hatches until we get a few back.”.
