Regan Slater has attracted admiring glances from Hull City Championship rivals Stoke City and Derby County, but he says he is enjoying life under Ruben Selles. Slater has been a firm regular since Selles arrived in mid-December and has at least another year on his MKM Stadium contract, though the club are primed for that interest to become something more concrete in the summer. The Sheffield-born midfielder, however, says he's happy at City.
He insists his focus is completely on the job in hand of keeping the Tigers in the Championship in the remaining four games, having delivered a positive display on Monday night as his side salvaged a valuable 1-1 draw against Coventry City. "Nothing's been said to me; there's nothing that I know about," he said. "Probably everyone has speculation and little whispers going on, but there's nothing's actually in stone now.
We've got big games to concentrate on, and I want to make sure we're not in League One next year." In general terms, having speculation about potential moves elsewhere suggests a player must be doing something right to have other suitors, but Slater says his focus is on nothing other than the job in hand. "If it were set in stone, then, yes, but they're just rumours and everyone talks, so it's nothing to get excited about," he said.
"We've got massive games to be concentrating on, and we need to make sure we stay out of that bottom three. Yes (I see my future here), I've still got a year left here and an option after that, so I don't see why not." Slater has been a regular under Ruben Selles, having become disillusioned under former boss Tim Walter.
He says the Spaniard's style of play suits his game and he showed it against the Sky Blues, carving out gilt-edged chances for both Kasey Palmer and skipper Lewie Coyle. He said: "It's a lot better (compared to the previous management set-up). The way that he plays probably suits me.
He likes high energy and ratting and what have you, and that's one of my strengths. We look to try and get the ball forward quickly if we can, so it's enjoyable to play in."
