Hull City boss makes transfer confession as Tigers eye crucial summer with one caveat

City remain firmly entrenched in the relegation battle after a poor home loss at the weekend

Ruben Selles says plans for the summer remain on standby until Hull City know which division they will be playing in next season, which remains unclear after Saturday's 1-0 home loss to Luton Town . City had a big chance to put real distance between themselves and the bottom three for the first time in four months but produced a limp second-half display to lose to their relegation rivals, who moved to within three points of the Tigers. While victory would not have assured anything with seven games still to go, it would have given the club a big boost, while extending their unbeaten run, giving them renewed belief that survival could be achieved sooner rather than later.

Instead, the Tigers continue to look nervously over their shoulder ahead of Saturday's big Yorkshire derby at Sheffield Wednesday and planning for the summer must be put on the back burner, for now. While conversations have taken place with sporting director Jared Dublin about what he wants in the transfer market this summer, the Spaniard says that's all it can be just now because of the ongoing uncertainty. "Not with Acun (Ilicali), but since we finished the last transfer window, we had a couple of conversations with Jared (Dublin) about where we are going, and that's what we are doing," Selles told Hull Live when asked if chats with owner Acun Ilicali had taken place over his plans for the summer.

"They have the general lines, and they know what we want, and now it's about how we can get it, but everything is obviously on standby at this time of the year, especially in the situation that we are in."
