The Tigers midfielder has been a popular figure since his move from Bramall Lane

Ruben Selles has praised the attitude of Hull City midfielder Regan Slater amid growing interest in the former Sheffield United youngster. Slater is attracting interest from the Tigers' Championship relegation rivals Derby County and Stoke City, with the Tigers understood to be aware of those admiring glances. City paid £50,000 to sign Slater from the Blades in 2022 when he became the first permanent signing of Acun Ilicali's reign following a positive loan spell.

He's under contract until next summer with the Tigers having a further 12-month option to extend his deal further, but the club are primed for tentative interest to be turned into something more concrete this summer. The Potters were thought to be one of the clubs interested in signing Slater last summer, but City made it clear that he was not for sale. The Sheffield-born performer was left on the bench against Luton Town at the end of March, the first game this season where the 25-year-old did not play any part, but came back into the starting XI against old foes Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, a game which saw the Tigers claim a stunning 94th-minute winner courtesy of Charlie Hughes' bullet header.

"I had no idea about the speculation," Selles told Hull Live. "All I know is that Regan has always been training fantastically, but especially during the last couple of weeks. "He's a player that is always difficult to keep on the bench, but honest and deliver always one hundred per cent.

I'm not surprised by the speculation because he's a good player for the level, and we are lucky to have him with us here, so that's as much as I can say." Given Slater was born a Blade and came in for some typical post-game comments from Wednesday fans earlier in the season after successive MKM Stadium defeats, playing in that win would have meant something a little bit extra. "Regan has been exceptional in training," Selles added.

"I think so (the game would have meant something to him). I didn't even ask him because I'm more pragmatic in those things, and I saw a player that can give me what I want for the game, but hopefully, he enjoyed the victory."
