British actors Hugh Grant and Nicholas Hoult have shared a sweet reunion with fans 22 years after co-starring in the classic English film About a Boy. Playing the wealthy and carefree Will Freeman, Grant strikes up an unlikely friendship with a 12-year-old Marcus, played by Hoult, after the pair become acquainted following a single parents’ meeting. Adapted from the Nick Hornby novel, the 2002 flick also stars Aussie Toni Collette as Fiona, Marcus’ mother.
More than two decades after the film’s release, 64-year-old Grant shared a glimpse into the pair’s enduring friendship off-screen with an X post depicting himself and Hoult, 34, exchanging friendly banter in Los Angeles. Viewed more than 2.5 million times in 18 hours, the tribute offers a heartwarming side-by-side shot of the tuxedo-clad actors who have clearly aged since bringing their adored characters to life.
“I love love this movie so much. So funny and heartwarming,” one fan responded. “Time flies.
..scary really,” another said.
The latest image of the pair was taken outside the Ray Dolby Ballroom following the 15th annual Governors Awards on Sunday night. Hoult too shared the moment online, revealing the images to his 1.4 million followers on Instagram .
“Swipe to see a horrible reunion I’ve been avoiding at the Governors Awards. He’s very funny,” Hoult captioned the post, which also featured an image of himself at the event’s red carpet. But Grant played a more active role on the night — awarding the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to writer-director Richard Curtis — who cast him in films such as Notting Hill and Love Actually.
Offering on-stage remarks completely within his character off-screen, Grant went as far as to jokingly call Curtis an “****hole” after initially refusing to cast him as Charles as in Four Weddings and a Funeral..
