RUGBY LEAGUE: AFTER ending the 26 years of drought the Mt Hagen Wamp Nga Eagles fans and supporters welcomed their champions home at Kagamuga airport on Wednesday afternoon. The fans in their hundreds out in numbers and went to the airport early in the morning and waited but the team did not arrive. When they were later informed that the team was on the afternoon flight, the fans still braved the heat of the sun and waited for them.

Western Highlands provincial member Wai Rapa, Commerce and Industry Minister Win Daki, deputy governor Michael Mai, Mt Hagen City manager Jim Pena, Provincial Police commander Chief Superintendent John Sagom, Provincial Administrator Joseph Mambgil, Mul-Baiyer MP Jacob Kop Maki and the PEC members waited at the airport to receive the team and welcomed them. As the plane touched down the airport fire trucks splashed water into the plane as a token of appreciation. When Eagles chairman Bob Pakinti was the first to step out, he shared a tears of joy with Rapa and others followed by the winning coach Francis Ray, skipper Henry Wan Noki and other players.



After the team came out of the terminal they jumped onto the waiting bus and left for Mt Hagen with a long convoy of vehicles. People stood on the side of the road and blocked off the road to show their appreciation as well. The long convoy of vehicles went all the way to Queens Park Oval for.
