The popstar, 34, posted a video to TikTok a few weeks ago, revealing her decision to spontaneously book a trip to Australia during a 'drunken' night—and fans weren't having it. 'Pov: Last night I drunkly [sic] suggested we go to Australia in the morning,' the Body On Me hitmaker captioned an image of herself.

She added of her location: 'Now I'm in Sydney .' Fans were quick to criticise the video in the comments section, calling the popstar out for being insensitive about her expensive, last-minute travel plans during a cost of living crisis. 'I drunkly said "I’m going to order some food" then my card declined and I fell asleep and woke up in my own bed,' one person sarcastically wrote.

Her co-founder and friend Anna Lahey, who she started hair-care brand Typebea with, is also based in Sydney, making the city a regular spot for talking business.

Rita is married to New Zealand-born director Taika Waititi and the couple have a home in the City of Sails, making Sydney a hop, skip and jump away from their Auckland abode.
