Huge Coventry business park plans set for decision

It would go on land by the M6

Plans for a business park by the M6 at Exhall will go to Coventry councillors for a decision next week. New warehouse and office buildings are set to go on fields between the A444 and Pickards Way following an appeal decision two years ago. Council officials say final scheme details known as 'reserved matters' lodged last autumn should be approved.

But residents have objected to the in-depth proposals meaning these will be decided on at planning committee next week, 17 April. Locals raised their concerns in a petition to the council signed by 90 people and sponsored by a local councillor last year. Their appeal claimed the largest of the buildings - a unit set to be 18 metres high and with 50,000 square metres of space - would be an "over-development.

"We ask that Coventry City Council puts appropriate measures in place to protect local communities from adverse impacts," the petition stated. Developers revised the scheme but five neighbours still objected to the amended plans raising similar concerns, according to planning committee papers.

But council officers say the detailed scheme is in line with what is required by the outline approval and will not harm road safety or neighbours' living environments. They added that the buildings will not be as tall as they could be under the outline permission, would have an acceptable appearance and layout, and the building closest to people's homes will be screened by landscaping. They also said noise levels will be at a low impact without any mitigation needed.

Plans will be decided almost a year after international logistics developer Panattoni bought the 47-acre site. The land has been called a "prime location" for new business space as it is close to the motorway network. According to the company's website the development is known as 'Panattoni Park' and work will start later this year.
