Hudson controlled the first half, leading 14-0 through two quarters. Junior Will Schmitt capped a 65-yard opening drive with a rushing touchdown from 6 yards out, and fellow running back Kameryn Clarke followed this up by taking a 46-yard run to the end zone with just over three minutes left in the half. The Bluehawks converted their second two-point attempt when quarterback Eli Conte found senior Anthony Florio beyond the pylon.
In the final two quarters, Johnstown switched from a balanced run/pass attack to an option-run oriented scheme, completing a 6 1/2-minute opening drive of the second half with a 4-yard run by junior quarterback Cole Downing to cut it to 14-8, later taking its only lead of the game with a 1-yard rush by Jonny Swartwout on the first play of the fourth quarter. Hudson jumped back in front on the following series when Schmitt scored his second touchdown from 3 yards out to cap a five play, 92-yard drive with just over nine minutes left. Schmitt finished with 117 yards rushing on 13 carries, while fellow back Clarke ended with 114 yards on the ground across 10 carries.
For Johnstown, Downing finished with 69 yards passing and two interceptions on 9 of 16 attempts, while Swartwout ended with 65 yards rushing on 19 carries. Flags were an issue for Hudson, as the Bluehawks allowed more than 90 yards worth of penalties. Having won its first game since Week 0, Hudson improves to 2-3 and will visit CFPOESJ next week.
Johnstown falls to 1-4 with the loss, and will hope to break a two-game skid hosting Fonda-Fultonville next Friday.
