A teaching assistant described as a 'pillar' of her village school is retiring after 25 years. Jackie Carr is spending her final day, Tuesday, with children enjoying the pantomime Dick Wittington at the Lawrence Batley Theatre , in Huddersfield . Her colleagues at Hinchliffe Mill Junior & Infant School, near Holmfirth , said Mrs Carr was a highly valued member of the team and would be missed.

Headteacher Damien Bond said: "Jackie Carr is well known to the children who have been through Hinchliffe Mill Junior & Infant School over many years. "She is a very well valued Teaching Assistant. She has worked in many classes, mainly with the youngest children in Reception and Key Stage 1, most recently in Key Stage 2.

" He added: "We will be sad to see her go. I have only been Head at the school since April but said it is with great sadness to see her go and it will be felt by the whole school community. "She has been a pillar in the school and it’s great to see the kindness and joy she brings, which we will sincerely miss.

"We wish her all the best with her retirement and hope she isn’t a stranger to the school in future." Mrs Carr said she was filled with 'immense gratitude' when looking back on her time at the school. "After over 25 wonderful years at this special little school, both as a parent and a member of staff, it feels like the right time to step away and embrace the next chapter in my life," she said.

"Reflecting on my time at Hinchliffe Mill, I am filled with immense gratitude. "Being part of the school community has been a great privilege. As a parent, I watched my own children thrive under the care and dedication of the staff.

"Later as a colleague, I was fortunate enough to work alongside a supportive and inspiring team that has made the school such a special one. "The memories I have of working with the incredible children, sharing laughter in the staffroom, and witnessing the magic that happens in the classrooms will stay with me forever. The bonds built as a team and the joy of seeing the pupils grow and succeed have made my years at Hinchliffe Mill so rewarding.

" Mrs Carr said she would miss the buzz of school life. She said: "Although I am looking forward to a retirement filled with adventures, family time and of course, plenty of moments with my grandchildren, I will miss the buzz of school life and the wonderful people who make Hinchliffe Mill so special." She thanked everyone for their kindness, support and friendship, adding: "It has been an honour to be part of the school, and I will always treasure the memories created together.
