ChatGPT is popular for getting answers on a range of topics in a fun, personalized way but be careful not to input too much confidential data when using the program, as this could be used to feed the models of the generative artificial intelligence giant. Find out what mistakes to avoid and what settings to adjust to use the platform in a more secure manner. ChatGPT can now remember your earlier interactions with it (currently reserved for paying subscribers), allowing it to delve back into previous discussions to retrieve useful information to better respond to new queries.
However, subscribers can disable this feature if they wish by going to their settings and disabling the "learn from your chats” option. It is also possible to find out which elements are saved by ChatGPT and delete only a few, those that are more sensitive or have become obsolete. It is advisable, now more than ever, to be very attentive to various elements (text and documents) that you share with ChatGPT as you make your requests.
There are several precautions to take, the first being to never share confidential personal information, whether it be address or bank details, social security number or even information relating to relatives or work. This data is likely to be exploited by the model. It is also best to avoid using ChatGPT on unsecured networks, such as public WiFi in transport or hotels.
These are generally poorly protected and easy for experienced hackers to access. Your data is then within their reach. Always favor a secure connection before launching into ChatGPT (or any other sensitive platform).
There are also simple settings to prevent private data from being sucked up by the system. The most important thing is to disable the "Improve the model for everyone” option in "Data controls” in Settings. If this isn't disabled, you are authorizing the use of all your content to train the models (current and future) and improve the performance of ChatGPT.
Be aware that ChatGPT saves all your discussions by default. However, you can delete any you want at any time in your history on the left, or you can also decide to get rid of chats in bulk using the "Delete all" option in your Settings. Finally, it is sometimes recommended to use the "Temporary chat" mode.
This guarantees that your conversations are neither stored nor used for AI learning. To activate it, simply start a new chat and click on the "Temporary” option, under ChatGPt on the top right corner on the web and in the form of a dotted bubble in the same spot on the mobile app. Using these practices regularly will help you strengthen the protection of your personal data when you connect to ChatGPT.
