Diwali makeup usually calls for more vibrance and flair. There’s no denying that ‘no makeup, makeup ’ makes for a perfect everyday choice. Glowing skin, flushed cheeks, and nude lips have become a trusted staple for many.
But, to what extent does this minimal look fit in with the festivities? For those hesitant to dive into bolder looks, we’ve gathered some easy tips that will still ensure you look celebration-ready. Celebrity makeup artist, Sandhya Shekhar tells us how to do minimalism with a festive twist “Minimal beauty is all about you wearing the makeup, rather than the makeup wearing you. It’s about standing out as a real face,” says Shekhar.
She explains "The idea behind it is that the makeup is that it is breathable and you're not looking like a different person. You don't look alienated from yourself, and your personality still comes through.” Start small Pull focus to the eyes.
Kohl -rimmed eyes complement any festive look. “The moment you play up the eyes with kohl you don’t really need a lot of makeup going on the rest of the face. Everything else can be muted.
” You can just correct and conceal any spots or acne, or even just your under-eye area. “You can pair that with a nude mouth. I feel like with this look you don’t need a full-blown face of makeup.
” A time-saving makeup tip for the festivities is to use a dark lip that instantly brightens up your whole face. “Pair it with great brows and mascara. Again, you don’t need a foundation for this look.
Work on your under-eye area with a concealer—you will still look Diwali ready, without really using foundation.” For the eyes Think earthy or jewel tones. For Diwali makeup, stick to anything metallic for eyeshadows—copper, bronze, or gold work best.
“Instead of a powder shadow, I recommend sticking to creams or liquids as they look much more luxe than powders,” she advises. For that minimalistic approach, the expert suggests going with a single-colour shadow, copious amounts of mascara, and adding natural fullness to the brows. For the face Stick only to corrector and concealer to fix any dark spots or the under-eye area.
Pro tip: Start with icing your face because it really tightens your pores, which also adds to the overall long-lasting effect of your makeup eventually. For The Cheeks “Depending on the balance of the look, you can go with, a blush and highlighter .” A highlighter is definitely something you shouldn’t miss out on for your minimalistic Diwali look as it adds to the sheen of the festive look.
For the lips Going for a darker colour eye? Then opt for neutral lips. If you’re wearing a gold (or similar) hue, pair your lips with deeper shades of red and maroon.
