How to Get to South Street event celebrates South Street eateries

A new event on South Street in Glens Falls is aiming to support business owners in the neighborhood who may have been affected by the ongoing Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and other construction on the street.

The goal of the event is to give restaurants a boost during what has been a difficult time, losing foot traffic due to the updates to buildings on this street that have closed down sidewalks and access points, and reduced available parking. Peter’s Diner, one of the restaurants on South Street has been affected by these developments. “It’s reduced people that come down trying to find a parking spot,” said Mia Miller, whose mother owns the diner.

“A lot of our customers are elderly customers, so if they can’t find a place to park right up front...

There are people that have been coming here for years, a lot of them are elderly, so they need parking that’s relatively close because of being unable to walk that far.” The list of restaurants participating in the event include: Southpaw Bistro, New Way Lunch, Peter’s Diner, The Golden Monkey Lounge, Taco Kings Jalisco, Beamer’s Pub, Bastard Restobar, and Cleome Table & Bar. New Way Lunch will be providing a 15% discount on hot dogs, said Alexandria Gazetos Mineo, whose parents own the restaurant.

“We have our own parking lot, so we’re in a better position than most, I would say,” she said. “And it has affected the traffic on the street and definitely the on the street parking but overall, we’re doing okay, and we’re holding our own. Like I said, we’re very lucky.

” “The goal of this event is to bring attention to South Street restaurants that have been impacted by the ongoing development projects—projects that we all hope will strengthen our community in the long run,” said event organizer Diana Palmer, Third Ward Common Council Member for Glens Falls, in a press release. “These businesses invested early in this neighborhood’s future, and while construction presents challenges, they continue to serve as vibrant parts of our community. While the work will be completed in the next year, they need our support now.

This event is a way for all of us to rally around them and show that we appreciate and value what they bring to Glens Falls.” “We are happy to support the business community and the restaurants of South Street,” added Nancy Turner, President of the Glens Falls Collaborative and Third Ward Warren County Supervisor for Glens Falls. “Their success is our collective success, and it is a priority.
