July 6: Orlando traveled to take on Kansas City in a top-of-the-table matchup. Both teams were vying for NWSL supremacy and a win from either team would give them sole control. Carrie Lawrence was shown a red card in the 42nd minute, putting Orlando at a disadvantage for the rest of the match. A second-half penalty converted by none other than captain Marta gave the Pride the 2-1 victory and a claim to first place that they would hold on to the rest of the season. Sept.

13: Kansas City came to Inter&Co Stadium determined to give Orlando its first loss of the season. Despite all of the attacking firepower, this match was defined by defensive strength . Kansas goalkeeper Almuth Schult had 5 saves while Orlando’s Anna Moorhouse had 3 to keep the game scoreless.

Chawinga had been on an eight-game scoring streak, but the Pride’s defense was up to the task of keeping the Golden Boot winner from scoring. Moorhouse also recorded a record-tying 11th clean sheet before going on to set the record at 13. — Kyle Foley, Orlando City Correspondent.
