THREE KEY FACTS: Team New Zealand won the America’s Cup finals series 7-2 , their third consecutive victory. The New York Yacht Club held the America’s Cup for 132 years , successfully defending it 24 times before losing to Australia II in 1983. The decision to defend the 2024 America’s Cup in Barcelona, rather than New Zealand, has led to feelings of disconnection among New Zealanders and missed economic opportunities for local industries .
