Trust is perhaps one of the most crucial elements in a quarterback/receiver combination, and Kansas City Chiefs receiver DeAndre Hopkins is already developing that with Patrick Mahomes. Having only been in the building for a few weeks after being traded from the Tennessee Titans, Mahomes, and Hopkins have already been slicing defenses apart on the field. With the All-Pro acclimating himself to Andy Reid's offense and consistently making plays, coordinator Matt Nagy says that the trust between the pair is growing with each pass.
“There's the trust factor," Nagy said . "You saw it a few games ago where Pat [Mahomes] had to throw down the middle, he made a great catch, the trust level goes up. We talked about it the first time we got together and talked about DeAndre coming to this team, he doesn't drop many footballs, and so when you're a quarterback, and you throw it to somebody, and they catch a lot of the footballs, there's a trust level that really goes up.
” Denny Medley-Imagn Images The numbers back up Nagy's comments, too. Hopkins, in his first game as a Chiefs, caught two passes for 29 yards, having only been in the building for a couple of days. He then followed that up with four catches for 56 yards against the Denver Broncos, and in both the Buccaneers and Denver games, he had a reception of over 30 yards. So, the pair is already on the same wavelength, and the trust being built will help the struggling offense when the playoffs roll around. Trust is a key factor, and it appears that Mahomes and Hopkins already have it in spades.
