After securing a win against the division-rival Indianapolis Colts, the Houston Texans now have a firm lead in the AFC South. This is a bittersweet victory for many fans, though, because star Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs was also hurt during the game. Houston is poised to make a playoff push, and being without their two primary receivers won’t help them.
Fortunately, other units for the Houston Texans were able to step up and get a win yesterday in Houston, Texas. Losing Diggs and Collins Would Be Tragic Of course, either injury is tragic for the players’ health. Having neither Nico Collins nor Stefon Diggs on the field would severely reduce the Texans’ capability to throw the football.
After Diggs left the game with his knee injury , the Houston Texans could not find the end zone. While Diggs didn’t return in the game against the Colts, he might be good to go for the Texans next game on Halloween night. If he can’t play, though, Quarterback C.
J. Stroud will have to go out there without Diggs and Collins, who has one more week to go before he gets off IR . The good news is that they are playing the Jets who are coming off a crushing loss to the New York Jets.
Without his two best pass options, though, Stroud would have to hope Joe Mixon has a phenomenal game to earn their next win. The Houston Texans Defense Is Deep There were an alarming amount of injuries on the defensive end for the Houston Texans going into Week 8, but they didn’t stop Houston from holding Indianapolis to 20 points . It seems like, with each new week, a different defensive player on the Houston Texans steps up to annoy the opposing offense.
For this week, that player was Jalen Pitre. He recorded four tackles on the day and undercut a hook route to catch an interception . Will Anderson Jr.
also had a great day with seven tackles and the game-clinching sack/forced fumble. New signee Devin White even got in on the action with three tackles. The Pass Blocking For Stroud Is Improving Blocking on pass plays was a clear point of concern for the Houston Texans after their loss to the Packers.
Even Head Coach Demeco Ryans mentioned on an episode of “Coffee with Coach” that the offensive line blocks much better for runs than for passes. C.J.
Stroud was also coming off his worst game of the season against Green Bay , so it’s clear the coaching staff wanted the offensive line to protect him better. Based on the Colts game, it looks like things are getting better in that regard. Stroud was only sacked twice, which is half of the four sacks he took against Green Bay.
That isn’t to say that pass blocking was perfect since Stroud was pressured on many of his throws. The Colts defensive line couldn’t fully close the gap to Stroud frequently, though, which is a great sign of improvement.
