Good Dog Houston is closing on April 27 after 15 years due to economic hardships and personal struggles, including Pferd's MS diagnosis and a rent increase.

Good Dog Houston, a local favorite known for its gourmet hot dogs, will close permanently on Sunday after 15 years in business. The restaurant, which started as a food truck and became a brick-and-mortar spot in 2013, faced challenges including the owner’s health issues, rising operational costs, and a rent hike, according to the Houston Chronincle. Despite these struggles, owners Amalia Pferd and Daniel Caballero expressed gratitude for the support from the Houston community.

The closure comes amid a wave of restaurant closures in the city. As Eater mentioned in a report, Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Meyerland is closing due to the loss of its kosher certification, La Madeleine in River Oaks is shutting down with Honest Mary’s moving in, Sharky’s Tavern in Galveston couldn’t renegotiate its lease, and Avenida Brazil in The Woodlands is closing, though a new Brazilian steakhouse will take its place.Despite these closures, Houston's food scene remains active, with establishments like Grace Pizza & Shakes continuing to expand.

While Good Dog Houston is closing, Caballero hinted at a possible future venture, noting a need for rest before returning to the restaurant business..
