Parts of the UK could see temperatures skyrocket to 23C later this month, new weather maps suggest. Forecast data collected by WXCHARTS.COM shows balmy temperatures arriving across the country by midday on Wednesday, April 16.
The maps suggest that major cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, and Newcastle, and vast swathes of the country are set to see maximum temperatures rise as high as 20C and above. Temperatures could also reach the high teens across much of Wales and Northern Ireland, and 20 in some areas - and as high as 21C in the north east of Scotland. Meanwhile, areas around London could see temperatures hit a scorching 23C on April 16 as a mini-heatwave arrives across the British Isles.
The heat looks set to return the following day (Thursday, April 19), the maps suggest, with much of southern England and Wales enjoying top temps in the high teens and 20s at 6pm. Northern Ireland could also enjoy 20C in some areas, with temperatures elsewhere set to see maximum temperatures rise only as high as 12C. Parts of Scotland, including major cities like Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Dundee, could also be getting highs between 16 and 20C, though northern areas may be somewhat cooler, only rising as high as 8C on parts of the coast, the maps indicate.
The Met Office's long-range forecast for Wednesday, April 16, to Wednesday, April 30, suggests weather patterns "are most likely to remain fairly slow-moving" through the second half of the month. It notes there "could be some interludes of rain or showers for a time around mid-April, but on the whole, plenty of dry and fine weather is expected with high pressure looking to remain in charge for most of the time". The National Weather Service added on its website: "Temperatures are likely to be around or a little above average overall, and feeling warm inland at times during the day, although some chilly nights are still possible under any clear skies.
" Meanwhile, today is forecast to be a "dry day, with lots of blue skies and spring sunshine". The Met Office suggests it will "remain rather breezy, particularly across England and Wales". It said: "Feeling warm in the sunshine, though still on the chilly side for places exposed to the wind.
" It continued that tonight is expected to be a "dry evening and night for many, with some low cloud and fog forming in places. " There is an increasing risk of showers across southwest England come dawn. It is turning quite chilly.
" Thursday is also expected to bring another sunny day for much of the UK, though, with cloudier skies across Wales and southwest England and showery outbreaks of rain developing here. "Warm once again in the sunshine," the government agency says..
