Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the role of the city hospital in a woman's death after she was allegedly denied treatment was "wrong and insensitive". "Lata Mangeshkar and other members of her family took efforts in setting up the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital . Various surgeries are performed at the hospital and I am not saying that all the things at the facility are wrong.
But the recent incident was indeed wrong and insensitive. If the hospital authorities take efforts to rectify it, I will be happy." Fadnavis was in the city on Saturday on an official tour, a day after protests rocked the hospital over the death of Tanisha alias Ishwari Bhise (37), the wife of personal assistant to BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe.
The Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital authorities denied the allegation of denying treatment to her. Replying to a question if an offence would be registered against the hospital authorities, the chief minister said, "We have got the primary findings, but we will have to wait till we get the final report from the committee. Even if we have to register an offence, we will require the findings of the report to decide which sections should be applied.
" The chief minister met the family members of the deceased woman in the city. He said the medical expenditure of the twins given birth by Bhise before her death would be met through CM Relief Fund. They are currently in NICU.
Bhise's relatives alleged that when she was taken to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital on March 28 during the seventh month of her pregnancy, the hospital authorities, including the doctor, told the family to deposit Rs10 lakh in advance. The deceased woman's family members said they had to shift her to another hospital because of the unavailability of the money. She delivered twins on March 29, but her condition deteriorated.
She was then shifted to another healthcare facility, where she passed away on March 31. Some organisations demonstrated outside the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital even on Saturday. Reacting to it, Fadnavis said, "The state has taken cognisance of the incident and the probe is on.
Therefore, such kind of demonstrations should be avoided." The women's wing of BJP had on Friday vandalised the private clinic of a doctor associated with Bhise's treatment. Fadnavis said, "The incident of vandalism by BJP workers is also wrong.
