VALLEY CITY, N.D. — CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City is launching a new chemo infusion center this fall, naming it in honor of lifelong resident Debbie Gabel.
The Debbie Gabel Infusion Center will be the hospital’s first dedicated space for chemotherapy treatment. Funding for the project comes in part from the Thundering Saints Debbie Gabel Cancer Memorial, a nonprofit that raises money to support local cancer patients. Gabel, who was born and raised in Valley City, passed away in 2009 after a four-year battle with ovarian cancer.
On Friday, Feb. 21, CHI Mercy Hospital held a ceremony to officially name the new center after her. Hospital staff say the facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment, expanded services and a comfortable environment for those undergoing treatment.
"I think the impact is so important — just kind of having an idea or a way that we're thinking about helping people, and then seeing it through to the end, seeing how it impacts the community, seeing people get excited," said Kayla Beilke, foundation coordinator at CHI Mercy Health. In addition to the new center, the Thundering Saints organization is tentatively planning the Debbie Gabel Memorial Cancer Ride for July 11 in Valley City..
