The Elevate-based EV will be the first all-electric model from Honda to be sold in the Indian market Honda Cars India launched the Elevate SUV last year in September and after its initial run on the sales chart, the current monthly volumes stand at a satisfactory level. The Japanese carmaker committed to launching 5 new SUVs in India by the year 2030 at the debut of the Elevate. In addition to this, the company also announced its first EV for the Indian market which will be based on the current Elevate platform.

Expected to go on sale next year i.e. 2025, Honda’s upcoming EV for the domestic market is a part of the new ACE (Asian Compact Electric) project.

Internally codenamed DG9D, the electric Elevate will likely be based on the modified version of the current ICE platform. The electric SUV will be manufactured in India and exported to multiple international markets. Rivalling the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, the Elevate EV will be manufactured at the company’s Tapukara, Rajasthan-based facility which will soon undergo retooling for electric vehicle production.

A good chunk of the overall production volume will be earmarked for exports to other markets globally. While the details about the project are under wraps, the EV SUV could likely get a battery pack of around 40-50 kWh with a claimed range of over 400 kilometres on a single charge.

The electric motor will be mounted on the front axle, making it a front-wheel-drive car. An AWD version is improbable to keep the overall pricing on the competitive end of the spectrum.
