Homeowner shoots, kills ‘erratic’ man during break-in, Platte County Sheriff’s Office says

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office said the homeowner reported the man displayed erratic behavior, including “praying to a horse” and attacking a dog.

A Platte County homeowner fatally shot a man who was allegedly attempting to break into their home Wednesday morning, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were called to the residence in the 15000 block of Masonic Drive, just outside Dearborn in rural northern Platte County, around 9 a.m.

because of a report of a suspicious man, said Captain Jeffrey Shanks, a spokesperson for the department. Shanks said the homeowner reported a “partially clothed” man had “erratic” behavior outside the home, including “praying to a horse” and attacking a dog. When the man allegedly attempted to force his way into the home, the homeowner shot him, Shanks said.



Deputies found the man’s body at the entrance to the home. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. Shanks said the North Platte School District went on lockdown for about an hour because of the shooting.
